Christmas in the Library
Pop-Up books by Robert Sabuda, the Twelve Days of Christmas, the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular and much more made Christmas in the library an extravaganza.
Christmas in the LibraryPop-Up artist Robert Sabuda is well known for his 3-D Christmas books. Using The Christmas Alphabet and The Twelve Days of Christmas I was able to creat a month-long Christmas celebration in the library.
These books provided the back drop and other activities included watching a video of how Sabuda creates his magic which you can see by clicking on this link. T'was the Night Before Christmas and all through the Casa? Caramba, que pasa? Yes, the students learned that there is a Spanglish variation (click on link above to read all kinds of versions) to the Clement Moore classic. I read them both and then they went to the computers and tried their own hand at Christmas Mad Libs. And to top off the season, I found some videos of the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular. The highlight was watching the Rockettes do the Toy Soldier routine. |
Making the ConnectionThese simple origami Christmas Trees look easy enough but they presented quite a challenge to the students. However after making them a couple of dozen times, I could teach the kids how to make them in 6 easy steps. For the Xmas party we gave to the Library Volunteers, I also invited them to learn how to make a few themselves and it was a great success.
For the younger students we made origami Christmas stars and wrote messages on them. Click on the link below to see the instructions. http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/origami-star |
